This highly collectible 1000+ page antique book analyzes the cause, origin, progress and conclusion of the Civil War in America with a viewpoint based on beliefs immediately after the war's end.

The book contains graphic descriptions of the various military and naval engagements. Biographical information is presented on the then-perceived heroes of the war.

The primary author, Samuel M. Schmucker, passed away in 1863, and the book was completed by Dr. L.P. Brockett and published by Jones Brothers & Co. and the Ziegler, McCurdy & Co. in 1865.

The book's binding was done by John F. DuComb in Philadelphia. The book contains numerous wood and steel-engraved plates with maps. The condition of the book is very good, with some yellowing and marks on the edges of the pages, but there is no evidence of tears or pages missing.
