This wonderful working mechanical bank is in very good condition. The bottom of the bank is marked “Excelsior Series Patd Fbry 8, 1887. This highly desirable bank is approximately 7 ¼” in height and length and 3 ⅞” in width.

These mechanical banks were built to be sturdy and when a coin is placed into the hod box in the hands of the hod carrier, you press the lever to dump the coin into the hopper next to the brick mason while the brick mason raises his hands to mortar a brick to help build a wall.

There is normal wear on the bank with some minor paint loss and slight oxidation near the base, but overall, the bank presents very well, as does the two workers.

The original coin cover is in place but no key is present. A Mason mechanical bank is a wonderful addition to any collection and in our opinion is Shepard Hardware's best.
