- Description
This great attention getting display measures 32" in height, 15" in width and 18" in depth. J.H. Animations was a British company that created intricate electric automata or moving mechanical figures during the 1950's and 1960's. Most of the figures they made were for advertising and store display windows.
The structure of the French Bread Baker is molded plastic. The baker's hand painted face and hands show crackling from age, but overall the character's features remain in good condition. Some of the baker's curly hair and eyebrow hair is missing on the front by his tall baker's cap, but this is an easy fix since the hair was originally glued on.
The original clothing, black shoes, baker's checked pants, shirt, and apron are present with some minor soiling and a tear on one of the sleeves of the shirt. The wood baker's table is covered in white plastic-like film (to simulate white marble) with a small piece approximately 1" missing near the front corner, where there is a minor split in the wood.
When working, the baker moves back and forth while his arms move up and down to knead dough. We have not tested the automation due to the British current and plug requirements. A person with electrical knowledge could convert the automation to U.S. electrical standards. This is a great-looking piece, and we are fairly certain there are very few of these around.
