This is a aluminum reproduction of the 1930’s unusual peanut vending machine known is "Smilin' Sam, The Salted Peanut Man.” Some like being reminded of the devil and others like hiding from the devil. The machine measures 14” high. The tongue does pull out to dispense peanuts without the use of a coin.

When tested, the coin mechanism did not work properly but no coin is needed to pull out the peanut dispensing tongue. Many of the original Smilin' Sams made in the 1930’s were melted down in WWII because they contained 15 lbs. of aluminum, a metal that was in high demand due to the need to manufacture airplanes and other defense-related equipment.
