There is a lot of history in this excellent condition framed piece.
First, Toots Shor's Restaurant and Bar in Manhattan was a place frequented by famous athletes, actors and personalities. The place was known for its large circular bar.
In the 1940's and 1950's the establishment was ranked among the Stork Club, 21 Club, Delmonico's or El Morocco as a place to be seen. Joe DiMaggio, Jackie Gleason, Frank Sinatra, Judy Garland, Marilyn Monroe, Orson Welles, Yogi Berra and Ernest Hemingway were all regulars at the bar.
The restaurant and bar served simple American fare at moderate prices as is evident from the framed menu. We believe this menu is from 1958.
The one and only Sandy Koufax, also known as "The Left Arm of God" signed this menu. Koufax played 12 years in the major leagues from 1955 to 1966. He joined the Brooklyn Dodgers at age 19 and never pitched in the minor leagues. Koufax won three pitching Triple Crowns and threw four no-hitters including a perfect game in 1965. He is enshrined in baseball's Hall of Fame.
The menu was also signed by Joey Giardello (real name- Carmine Orlando Tilelli) who was a world middleweight boxing champion from 1963-1965. He is most famous for "The Reversed Reversal" decision when a fight was first awarded to him than reversed in favor of his opponent named Billy Graham.
This fight was later reversed again in litigation where Joey Giardello was finally declared the winner of the disputed match. The boxing movie "The Hurricane" was based on Joey's legendary fight.
