- Description
In 1870, J. Herman Pine sold his first batch of Pine Bros. Glycerine Tablets. Mr. Pine was a confectionery and believed the combining of glycerin with gum acacia would produce a soft drop that can heal a sore throat.
When Pine added some natural flavoring and some coloring, he was off to the races. Today, there are many people who claim that Pine Bros. is the best-tasting licorice-like candy ever made. The Pine family sold the business in the 1930's and the company has been sold several times since then.
This lot includes a banner ad from 1940's featuring Pine Bros. Glycerine Tablets, a 1940's sample box that would hold two cough drops, a Pine Bros. advertising match book from the 1950's, and a very rare, unopened, early 1960's 10¢ box of assorted cough drops that included five different flavors.
