Gold Dust washing and cleaning products were developed by N.K. Fairbank Manufacturing Company in 1889. The bright box and reasonable price led to the success of the brand's trademarked "Gold Dust Twins" with the slogan "Let the twins do the work."
Gold Dust cleaner originally emerged at a time when new cleaning products were introduced to replace hard bar soap.
In 1892 the Gold Dust Twins, named Goldie & Dustie, became the face of the product. The black twins were displayed as having a huge stack of dishes in a washtub in front of them.
In 1929 a radio show was created that featured the twins. In the 1930's Gold Dust was purchased by Lever Bros., and in the 1940's and especially after WWII, the brand's twin mascots were no longer viewed as being socially acceptable, and the long-running Gold Dust brand vanished.
