This handcrafted lot features two archers and three spear soldiers traveling in a red painted wagon pulled by an ox.

The cart has four shields attached and a large flag is displayed on the back of the cart. The bottom of the wagon features Kelsey's signature, and this piece is numbered #10 of #10.  The piece is approximately 10" in length, but the spear extends outward another 3".

Alan Kelsey (1925-2014) created custom-made and hand-painted soldiers, wagons and vehicles. He was a master painter and many of his works were featured in Toy Soldier magazines. In 1957, he moved from England to New York, and he supplemented his salesman's wages by selling handcrafted soldier battle sets at fairs and other craft gatherings.

Eventually, he was able to establish a successful company named The Essex Regiment enabling him to reap the rewards of his artistic talent. This is a great piece to have in any collection.
