Andy Devine’s (1905-1977) real name is Jeremy Schwartz. His famous raspy voice came from a childhood injury, and he thought he would only succeed as an actor in silent films.

Fortunately, Andy’s unique voice allowed him to have a very successful film and television career where he appeared as a popular supporting actor in countless shows. He was most famous for his role with Roy Rogers in the late 1940’s and in the television series Wild Bill Hickock (“Hey, Wild Bill, Wait for me.”) (1951-1958).

Andy Devine hosted a very popular children’s program called Andy’s Gang in 1955 until the end of 1960.
