Antique Tin Litho Circus Theme School Box

This unusual hinged tin school box measures 10 ¼” in width 8” in height and 3” in depth. We spent considerable time trying to find a similar box to help us identify the manufacturer and date of make and those efforts were in vain. 

The tin has circus-themed pictures on all sides with colorful clowns, horses, and animals and an odd frog appearing in one scene. Because of the rivets used in the construction, we believe the school box may date to the 1930’s to mid-1940’s. The box does have substantial wear and some metal bends and flaring, but on most sides, the unusual circus pictures are captivating.

All rivets are tight as are the metal handle on the lid and the two metal closure latches. The bottom of the box is worn and no longer shows most of its colors. Highly graphic circus-themed tin boxes like these are not common.
