Kerry Wood 1998 Game-Used Glove — 13 Strikeouts vs. Arizona Diamondbacks — Historic 33-Strikeout Consecutive-Start Record

This baseball glove was worn by rookie sensation Kerry Wood on May 11, 1998, when he faced the Arizona Diamondbacks at Bank One Ballpark (now Chase Field) in Phoenix. Wood struck out 13 batters over seven innings to earn the victory.

The significance of this glove goes far beyond a single game.

Just five days earlier, on May 6, 1998, Wood delivered one of the most legendary pitching performances in baseball history, striking out 20 Houston Astros at Wrigley Field. In his next start, he followed that performance with 13 strikeouts against Arizona.

The combined 33 strikeouts over consecutive starts represent a remarkable piece of baseball history and an extraordinary bookend to Wood's legendary 20-strikeout game.

Remarkable Provenance

The chain of custody for this glove traces back to Wood's Chicago Cubs teammate Brian McNichol. Wood and McNichol came up together in the Cubs farm system and were part of the same 1995 draft class, as Wood was the Cubs first round pick (4th overall) and McNichol was drafted by the north siders with their next pick in the second round (34th overall). 

After completing this historic game, Wood gave the glove to McNichol, and the glove is accompanied by a unique Certificate of Authenticity bearing McNichol's signature, attesting to its authenticity.  As a bonus, we also are including a signed Brian McNichol Topp's Rookie card too.

A faded pen handwritten message from Wood is also present on the inside palm of the glove. We have not assigned any additional value to this either, but it remains an interesting detail for the eventual collector.  Overall this glove is in excellent condition.

Wood's famous 20-strikeout game glove is now preserved at the National Baseball Hall of Fame in Cooperstown. This glove represents the other side of that extraordinary achievement—the glove worn during the very next start, when Wood added another 13 strikeouts to the record-setting sequence.
