This popular 4" tall black gunpowder tin features the original decal of an Indian warrior holding a rifle in a field.

On the bottom of the tin is a stamp indicating that this item was photographed for a Kovel's antique book. The decal is loose on one side, but it remains in very good condition.

In viewing the brass cap on the top of the tin, we do believe that the tin was most likely repainted to obtain its excellent orange color.

The brass cap does not open, and we are not sure if the cap was original to the item.

Gunpowder tins of this period are highly collectible, especially those bearing Native American imagery and strong graphics. This piece reflects both the history of American sporting goods and DuPont’s long legacy as a gunpowder manufacturer.
