- Description
Many Americans do not know how great the ventriloquist and comic Señor Wences was because they did not know how special The Ed Sullivan Show was to both adults and children during the 1950s and 1960s.
The frame stage picture features Pedro (a disembodied head in a box) long before Jeff Dunham invented his act. The signed hand-drawn cartoon character related to Señor Wences active role in entertaining children by appearances on The Muppet Show.
In 1996 he received the Lifetime Achievement Award from the US National Comedy Hall of Fame. Wences could entertain people for hours by just drawing a little face on his hand and using his thumb and fingers to animate the head, nose, eyes and mouth. Pedro used to always say Senor Wences was a “s’awright” and should be remembered for the joy that he brought his audience.
