This 1887 patented mechanical figurine works very well.  The figurine is in all original condition with normal wear with some paint loss issues on the right knee and arm of the red jacket.  Overall, the piece presents well and the paint flaws are from use and not abuse.  A dime or ball is placed in the figure's hand and when the rear level is pressed, the tongue lowers to accept the offering, the eyes move and the ball is dropped into the bottom base with slots numbers 5, 7 or 9.

The object of the game is to bet what slot the ball or dime hits.   Many collectors call this a mechanical bank but since the items that the man eats are returned, I believe J. E. Steven’s viewed this as a table top game.  Three silver balls are included.  This is a very good piece for any collector to hold.
