J. & E. Stevens 1888 Cast Iron Mechanical Bank -“Darktown Battery”

This rare bank features three black American baseball players. When you press the button behind the catcher, the pitcher tosses the coin placed in his right hand to the catcher who lifts his mitt to allow the coin to hit the flap on the catcher's chest which deposits the coin. The batter lifts his arms with the bat and his head moves as if the pitcher threw an inside ball. The bank worked very well when tested. 

The original paint on the bank is missing but the fine details of the players including their uniform, hair, caps, and facial features are in very good condition. The coin chamber lid is original and present. Working banks like these are becoming hard to find. The Darktown Battery lettering along the platform base is clear and present.
