Jim Brown (1936-2023) played football for the Cleveland Browns from 1957 to 1965. During his career, he carried the ball 2,359 times for a total gain of 12,312 yards and 106 touchdowns.
He substantially contributed to the civil rights movement and was one of the first prominent athletes to speak out on racial issues, the Vietnam War, and youth violence. After his NFL career, he became a successful actor in films like "100 Rifles" and "The Dirty Dozen."
Orenthal James (O.J.) Simpson (1947-2024) played football from 1969 to 1979. He was the first NFL player to rush for more than 2,000 yards in a season. After his football career, he became a celebrity appearing in the "Naked Gun" movies, doing endorsement deals like Hertz and appearing in sports broadcast booths.
In 1994, O.J. transitioned to a new role as murderer when he slashed his former wife and friend outside her Beverly Hills residence. His desire to change his name from the "Juice" to the "Juicer" was a choice that substantially reduced his fan base to one.
