This vintage Slinky and original box is in good condition. As every Slinky owner knows, when played with, the wire spring eventually bends a and stretches and this one appears to have been played with.

The box has some sun fading and tearing on the front flap closure but all printing remains clear and intact with the exception of two areas where tape marks are present. These old original Slinky's with box have become difficult to find.

In 1945, Richard James, a naval engineer, knocked a helical spring over in his laboratory and watched it walk down a stack of books while reaching the floor. Richard and his wife Betty named the spring the Slinky and he applied for a patent on the device.

A Philadelphia company named James Industries was created and the Slinky became a huge success with the help of creative advertising and a popular simple jingle.
