This mint condition 24K gold-plated coin measures 1 ¾” inch in diameter and features the CIA logo on the side painted blue and the Great Seal of the United States on the bright gold side.
Challenge coins surfaced during World War II when the practice of carrying a coin for units devoted to Special Forces was a way to identify who belonged and didn't belong in the unit.
When a unit member challenged a service member, the service member would present his/her coin. Often, the presence of a coin challenge would decide who would usually buy drinks, the challenger or the person being challenged.
