You won't find this in bucket #6, and you probably need this item to accompany your memories of Garfield Goose, Frazier Thomas, Andy Devine, Bob Bell, and Ray Rayner if you are from Chicago.
This 21" tall plastic head of "Bozo the Clown" was mounted on the side of the doors that were used by the audience to attend the Bozo Show at the WGN television studio on West Bradley Place on Chicago's north side.
The head was mounted on an electric wall sconce that lit the head from the inside. On the opposite side of the double doors, there was another identical sconce and plastic Bozo heads
The Bozo show ran live from Noon - 1PM every week day from 1960-2001 and was hosted by Bob Bell as Bozo; Ned Locke played the ringmaster; the mute clown "Sandy the Tramp" was based on Harpo Marx's character and the country bumpkin clown named Oliver O. Oliver was played by Ray Rayner.
At the show's peak, the wait for a ticket to become an audience member of the Bozo Show was eight to ten years. Bob Bell, the original Bozo retired in 1984, but the show continued for another 17 years with Bell's replacement being Joey D'Auria.
The two-sided Bozo head has some paint loss, minor cracks, splits, and seam breaks, but overall, the piece still displays well. The original screw fittings and plate for the lighted sconce attachments are present.
Due to age and the heat from the light bulbs, the plastic is somewhat brittle, so this item needs to be handled somewhat carefully.
