- Description
This early hand-turned panorama with colored paper depicts detailed Civil War scenes. In 1868, Milton Bradley and Company began mass-producing boxed panoramic toys titled the Historiscope. “A Panorama & History of America”.
Each historiscope consisted of twenty-four hand-colored lithographs printed on a continuous strip of paper. Turning the handles moves the scenes across the stage in front of the box. The box and scroll are in very good condition except for the missing metal turn knobs. The scroll can be turned by rolling the paper from the back of the box.
A handy person could attach new knobs and the two openings since the scroll rods were originally drilled to receive the knob-threaded fasteners. The box measures 11" inches wide 6 1/4" inches in width and almost 2 inches in height. This historical piece has been discounted by 25% due to the missing knobs.
