This excellent condition 10-1/4" x 6-3/4" x 3" illustrated candy box only has some small tear chips along the side corners and some minor scars along the top edges.

The box has very little discoloration and the bottom of the box presents flawlessly. The interior of the box that held the licorice-like candy is very clean, and the Heide's trademark diamond and red patterned interior box sides revealing the words chocolates, bon-bons and confectionery is stellar.

The contents of the five-pound box would have contained artificially colored black anise flavored candies that sold for ten pieces for a penny. The top of the box features a highly collectible illustration of dancing black children and an elderly gentleman playing the banjo.

This is a rare and great box for any collector of Black Americana to own.
