- Description
This one-of-a-kind wooden music box is likely over 150 years old and was probably made in France. The box features a wooden piano accompanied by a lady piano player. On the side of the piano is a male and a female dancing the waltz.
The music of Ii Bacio (The Kiss Waltz) is played when you turn the crank as the piano player moves her hands on the piano keys. While the piano plays, the two dancers slowly rotate on their connecting rods.
The three hand-painted bisque-like heads are in very good condition, as are the figures' arms, bodies, and legs. The blond wigs adorning each figure scream France.
The original delicate silk clothing is present but does show wear and some fabric separation due to age. The music box played very well when tested.
This Automator measures 13" in length, 7-1/2" in width, and the height to the top of the piano is 8-1/2". The floor of the stage is covered with a check pattern made of a material similar to antique wallpaper, and there is some minor paper loss on a small portion of the back edge of the floor paper; with some soiling and fading are evident on the floor.
There are only a few minor nicks or marks on the wood base, and the dark piano and piano bench remain almost flawless.
This delicate piece is meant for the collector who understands how few of these detailed one-of-a-kind music box Automator's will surface as the years roll by.
