- Description
The Coon Chicken Inn was a successful restaurant chain operating in the 1920's that closed its doors in the late 1950's.
A rather ugly bald black man with a porter's cap and winking eye was the chain's mascot. The chain started in 1925 in Salt Lake City by a businessman named Maxon Lester Graham.
This 8" diameter bowl features the Coon Chicken Inn mascot in its center. The bowl was probably made in 1935 and is in very good condition with no cracks or discoloration. We believe the Coon Chicken Inn mascot in this 1935 bowl was overlaid on the old dish sometime in the 1980's.
The paper menu is in excellent condition and features the locations of three stores located in Portland, Seattle and Salt Lake City. The prices on the menu show a fried chicken dinner with fries and a roll for 50¢, a chicken sandwich for 25¢, and homemade pie for 15¢, We could not vouch for the authenticity of the menu so we priced both the bowl and menu at a fraction of the price of what the authentic items may sell for.
