Grumpy and Bashful were two of the 7 dwarfs in the 1937 film Snow White. The film was produced by Walt Disney Productions and released by RKO Radio Pictures. Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs was based on the German fairytale by Brothers Grimm written in 1812. The film premiered on December 21, 1937, and in 1938 the film was the highest-grossing movie. At the time, Walt Disney was in his early years of filmmaking.

The Knickerbocker dwarf dolls were the first licensed product from Snow White and they were used to promote Disney’s strong brand. The 9” dolls are in very good shape with the hats spelling the name of the dwarf presented. All dwarf dolls' composite faces were the same but the hand-painted faces made each of the seven dwarfs unique in facial appearance.
