We believe that this beautiful doll was manufactured by Ludwig Greiner in the late 1800’s as supported by the 1858 patent mark of the doll's right shoulder.  The doll is in wonderful condition with all clothing and petticoat spotless, leather hands, blue glass eyes and velvet boots are virtually flawless.

Mr. Greiner was the first doll maker to patent the use of paper mache on cloth dolls. His process for creating heads that resemble German-made China-head dolls resulted from his pressing a combination of flour, paper, and glue into a mold.  Most of Mr. Greiner’s dolls were produced by his company (run by his sons after Ludwig’s death in 1874) during the years 1860 -1884.
