This wonderful 36" x 21-1/2" colorful flag is in excellent condition with no tears or staining.
Chicago's Columbian Exhibition ran from May to October in 1893. The fair was dedicated to the 400th anniversary of Christopher Columbus's arrival in the New World in 1492. The fair had over 65,000 exhibitors. The 630-acre fairgrounds and buildings were designed by Frederick Olmsted. The buildout required over 40,000 skilled laborers who constructed lagoons, buildings, and common walks that included newly invented electric lighting.
The first Ferris wheel was presented at this fair. The wheel consisted of 36 cages that could hold 60 people each, creating a maximum occupancy of 2,160 people per ride. Admission to the fair was 50 cents for adults and 25 cents for children under 12.
This great antique Christopher Columbus flag should be safeguarded from those that are offended by the memory of Columbus, despite the fact that a 15th century explorer did open up the world for others to learn about.
