Imagine the suspense when you wind the key on a 140-year-old mechanical toy. Imagine the elation you receive when that antique toy actually works as it should. This rare 9 ½” high toy has the Chinaman’s head made out of pot-metal with the rest of the body being made of wood and metal.
The long braided hair (to the knees) is in very good shape. There is a very minimal amount of paint loss on the face and on the black hairline and the facial features of the man are outstanding and remain very original.
The hands and shoes are wonderful. The clothing is original to the toy and given the age, is in very good condition with only a few minor holes and some color fading. When you wind the toy, the legs move and the man walks forward with the aid of the hidden wooden rollers in the souls of each shoe.
This toy pretty much stands alone and we doubt that you can find another one like this in its original working condition.
